Everyone is encouraged to set up a CERNphone number which can be added to the Directory.

Two applications are available:

  • A mobile softphone app for iOS and Android
  • A desktop softphone for Windows, macOS and Linux developed at CERN

Installing CERNphone either on you laptop or phone is very straightforward:

From 1st July 2022, Skype for Business service was replaced by CERNphone, a softphone client available for desktops and laptops running Windows, MacOS or Linux and for Android and Apple mobile phones.

Please note that the (re)connection of physical IP phones on the CERN network is subject to restrictions and limited to specific and approved service needs (control rooms, receptions, secretariats etc…).

After the migration to CERNphone, your device can be returned to the Telecom services if it is a Polycom VVX (150,201, 401, 411). Don’t forget to remove it from the CERN Network database.

Other models (such as Telli, Alcatel analogue, HP 41XX (e.g.4120) sfB/Lync, Polycom CX300/600) cannot be reused and must be disposed in a red recycle bin or brought to the CERN recycling service.
